Sacred amulets have more than religious significance in Thailand. They’re also big business with some rare examples being worth many millions of Thai baht.
At Bangkok’s largest amulet market, near Wat Mahathat, collectors rake through thousands of amulets in search of that rare find.
Most amulets are cast from moulds and are worth only a few baht but eagle-eyed treasure-hunters armed with magnifying glasses spend hours seeking an overlooked exception.
